Proposal for an indoor/outdoor performance space

Spring 2013, Studio
Axel Kilian

Thinking through the roles that scale, distance, and perspective play in our understanding of the architectural object in the urban environment, I photographed a series of paper models from angles I thought created compelling or dynamic formal relationships. Using these miscellaneous photographs, I designed a new building that could reproduce some of the compositional effects in the photos at key points on a site in the New Jersey skyline. An outdoor theater/performance space, the building seeks to reiterate and play with the dynamics of spectacle on its interior as well as its exterior.
