COLOR

Color data is what indicates the materiality of a scan. Because scans are usually output as homogeneous surfaces in the form of point clouds or meshes, the only information that provides a sense of material difference is color. The Butler apartment contains fairly standard materials: linoleum, Formica, wood, Sheetrock, tile, plastic, etc. By assigning a range of stiffness and spring values to each point based on their brightness values, the original materials, which have been reduced to swatches of color, take on new material qualities, new flexibility.
